The Rules - Updated!

Thursday, March 12, 2009

With the addition of 10 new categories I thought it would be a good idea to update the rules for creating a laminated list. So here goes:

  • All people on the list must be alive. Unless you've figured out a way to bring people back from the dead there is absolutely no way that a posthumous selection can be made.
  • No selections can appear in more than one category.
  • "Barely Legal" selections must be between the ages of 18 and 23. Anyone younger is just icky and anyone older no longer fits the category.
  • "Older Men" must be at least 20 years older than you. And I mean to the day.
  • "Token Black Guy" is code for any selection of a race other than your own. And of course, you are not limited to only one person of a different race.
  • "No One Else Gets It" simply means that no one else gets it. It's that person that you love that when you say their name all (or at least most) of your friends look at you like you're nuts.
  • "First Love" is the first major celebrity crush that you had.
  • "Singing Voice" is reserved for a celebrity that sings in say a movie or a tv show, but generally speaking is not really known for their musical abilities. It's about the way they sound, not the way they look. Bonus if they look good too.
  • "Speaking Voice" is any celebrity whose voice you love. Again it's about the voice, not the face.
  • "Animated" is just as it says - a cartoon. Yes, it's silly, but we're running with it. And be honest, own up to your true feeling. You know you love animated characters too.
  • "Fictional Character" selections are made based on the character and not anyone portraying them. This choice can come from a movie, tv show, book, etc.
  • "Action Hero" is a more focused fictional selection. This can be your basic action guy or one of the super hero variety. And again, this can be from a movie, tv show, book, etc.
  • "Tough Guy" is an actor who is known for playing an action or super hero.
  • "Tortured Soul" selections can be either a person who has a tendency to play brooding, conflicted characters or a person who really is brooding and conflicted.
  • "Brainiac" is another fictional character from a movie, tv show, book, etc. This choice should be know for his brain power. He's not necessarily a nerd, but definitely smart.
  • "But His Face" is the male equivalent of a "Butterface". It's the person that you think has a great body, but his face...not so much.
  • "Chubby Hubby" is your favorite plus-size man.
  • "Scruffy" selections are those that look better when they don't shave or are little dirty. They may look good all cleaned up too, but for this category it's all about the grunge factor.
  • "Gay" selections can be either a gay man who you really wish wasn't gay or an actor who tends to play gay characters who you really wish would just stop it already.
  • "Dapper Dan" is the label for that classic gentleman that strikes your fancy. They tend to age well and probably look good in a tux. Think Cary Grant.
  • "Villain" is another fictional choice. And remember, you should be picking the villain, not the person who plays them. And once again, this can be from a movie, tv show, book, etc.
  • The other categories are fairly self-explanatory, but if you're not sure just ask. Trust me, I'll give you my opinion.

New Categories!

After countless obsessive conversations about our laminated lists my friends and I have determined that 20 categories was not enough. That's right, we are expanding. I am pleased to announce 10 new categories!

  1. Action Hero
  2. Tough Guy
  3. Tortured Soul
  4. Brainiac
  5. But His Face
  6. Chubby Hubby
  7. Scruffy
  8. Gay
  9. Dapper Dan
  10. Villain

Check out the updated rules for explanations of the categories. I can't wait to see what people come up with!
